How to Tap into Your Sensitivity and Design a Business You Love

Squarespace website design for Creativity Coach

As a sensitive person, designing a business you love can look different to the traditional online chatter for business success.

You might find that overstimulation can quickly lead to overwhelm. Or, there may be times when you need to retreat and refuel to refresh your creative energy.

As a business owner who prefers to run an online business without the spotlight, here are a few of my tips on how to design a business you love.

  1. Build connection

If you’re providing one-on-one services to your clients, providing a personalised experience over a one-size-fits-all transaction can help strengthen your connection and relationship with your clients.

Instead of creating aggressive sales funnels and endless freebie opt-ins, think about having consultations and conversations with your clients to understand their inner desires and dreams. Coming from a place of intentional curiosity can help you figure out where you can help and better understand your client’s needs.

Whether you opt for face-to-face meetings or conversations over Zoom, intentional interactions can foster a connection that helps you design a client experience unique to you and your clients’ needs.

2. Excitement

As a sensitive person, you may also be deeply affected by someone else’s moods and emotions. This can impact your creativity and work for your clients. Excitement creates a frequency that aligns your business to clients in a way that expands the client experience.

A design experience gives us the space to explore the potential of what your business could become. And, to be honest… If you’re not excited about working with me, I don’t have a whole lot for you I’m afraid!

3. Aligned values

Your values lay the foundation of what you care about the most. While generating a profit is what will keep you in business, creating a business that aligns with your values is what will make your work more meaningful and give you the purpose you need to continue for many years to come.

Honesty, integrity, client experience, collaboration, strategy and empowerment are all core values of my design business. These values help shape processes and decisions I need to make while attracting clients that deeply share the same core principles.

4. Use your intuition as your guide

As someone who just found out, that she’s a manifesting generator, tuning into my intuition and what feels right has helped create more flow and less resistance in my work.

When I first started Creations by Faria, I felt I should be posting to Instagram every day and I should be sending an email newsletter. But, over time, I’ve aligned with more of what feels intuitively right for me and less of the ‘shoulds’ or ‘musts’ of the marketing and online business world.

I even stopped blogging for a while as creating Squarespace content felt like something I should be doing. While I love the Squarespace platform and will occasionally write a ‘how-to’, I’ve found myself better placed and more excited to serve clients through design.

Disconnecting with the ‘shoulds’ and staying true to myself has helped me connect with some wonderful clients.

5. Create a home office that works for you

Do you ever feel distracted when you work from home? Or do you find your senses easily tune into the emotions of people around you?

Curating a space that eliminates clutter and distractions can help align your focus and productivity. While I like to keep my desk minimal, I also find inspiration in photography and have some of my favourite travel photos scattered around me.

Intentionally designing your workspace with curated pieces that spark your creativity and imagination, can create a grounded and inspiring place to focus.

6. Take space and time

Engaging in meaningful self-care that re-energises you and gives you the space to nourish your inner world is vital for creating a business that can sustain you over the long run. It can give you the clarity you need to make decisions and inspire you in your work.

Whether it’s going for a wilderness walk, spending the morning journaling, or simply spending some quiet downtime during the day, taking time and space for yourself can help you reconnect and show up in meaningful ways for your clients.

Maybe you identify as a highly sensitive person (HSP) or feel you have a more sensitive nature. Give yourself the permission to build your business differently and thrive on your entrepreneurial journey.
